Where to Stay in Antigua
A practical shortlist from budget apartments to premium beach resorts, with special attention to locations that can work without a rental car.
Antigua is more spread out than Barbados. A hotel can sit on a superb beach and still leave you dependent on taxis for groceries, restaurants or sightseeing. For that reason, this guide does not simply rank hotels by luxury. It asks a more useful question: how well does the location work once you step outside the room?
The strongest independent bases are Dickenson Bay, where beach hotels and restaurants cluster close together, and English Harbour / Falmouth, where restaurants, marinas, Nelson's Dockyard and several beaches can be combined on foot. Jolly Harbour and Valley Church work well for a west-coast beach stay, while the more remote all-inclusive resorts are included because they provide almost everything on site.

| Kitchen | Self-contained suites with kitchen facilities. |
| Advantages | Low price by Antigua standards, useful for longer stays, easy access to St. John's and everyday shopping. |
| Disadvantages | No beach on foot and the surroundings are urban rather than resort-like. |

| Advantages | Small-scale atmosphere, excellent harbour position, pool and one of Antigua's most walkable visitor areas. |

|---|---|
| Shopping & food | Jolly Harbour has a supermarket, restaurants and services, but they are not all immediately outside the property. |

| Kitchen | Full kitchen plus washing machine in the apartments. |
| Advantages | Excellent guest score, pool, full self-catering facilities and one of Antigua's best beaches within walking distance. |
| Disadvantages | The wider west-coast area is spread out and public transport is less convenient than in the capital or English Harbour. |

| Without a car | Possible for active walkers, but the hillside makes taxis useful, especially with luggage or groceries. |
| Kitchen | Full self-catering kitchens. |
| Advantages | Excellent reviews, generous apartments, balconies and sweeping Falmouth Harbour views. |
| Disadvantages | The hill is the price of the view; this is not the easiest choice for anyone with limited mobility. |
