Where to Stay in the Dominican Republic
A practical shortlist for Punta Cana, Bayahibe, Santo Domingo, Cabarete, Puerto Plata and Las Terrenas — from affordable boutique hotels and self-catering apartments to large all-inclusive resorts.
The Dominican Republic is too large and varied for a single “best area”. Punta Cana and Bávaro are easiest for a self-contained resort holiday. Bayahibe and Dominicus put you on the calmer Caribbean side and are useful for Saona Island trips. Santo Domingo is for history, restaurants and city life rather than a beach stay. Cabarete combines beach culture with wind sports, while Las Terrenas is one of the easiest places in the country for an independent beach-town holiday.
