Isla Margarita Maps
Margarita is really two contrasting landscapes joined by the narrow La Restinga area: the more populated and mountainous east and the dry, rugged Macanao Peninsula in the west.

Eastern Margarita
Porlamar, Pampatar, La Asunción, Playa El Agua and most of the island's population and services lie in the eastern part. Cerro El Copey rises to roughly 950 m and creates a greener mountain environment.
Macanao
The western peninsula is drier and much less urbanised. Road trips here feel very different from the resort and commercial zones around Porlamar.
La Restinga
The national park's lagoon and sand-bar system forms the ecological link between the two major parts of the island.
