Isla La Tortuga Map

Venezuela's Isla La Tortuga is a broad, low island rather than the tiny Costa Rican tourist island of the same popular English name. Its lack of conventional infrastructure is the key fact for trip planning.

Scale

The island is roughly 24–25 km long and about 10 km wide, far larger than the old CaribSurf size description suggested.

Access

A map does not show the main difficulty: there is no normal public transport network for visitors. Boat access and any air arrangements require current local confirmation.

Future Development

Government master plans announced in 2026 include proposed hotels and an international airport. Those plans should not be mistaken for currently operating facilities.
